Chadron Quilt Festival Continuing At Assumption Arena

Loading

The annual Chadron Festival of Quilts continues its 3-day run at the Assumption Arena with hours of 9-5 today and noon-4:00 tomorrow.  Admission is $5 for the entire weekend and Chadronfestivalofquilts.com has a schedule of events.

Festival organizers say one of the most popular things about the event is that all quilts, quilt makers, and quilt owners are welcome with the only judging done by the members of the public based on what they like, not technical issues.

This year’s theme is “Flowers of Hope” while the featured quilter is Valora Hammond, who used her 16 years of working with Janome America to learn many new techniques.

There are 4 vendors this year: Sew Blessed and Quacky Quilter Haberdashery – both

in McCook, Betty’s Quiltery of Rapid City, Platte Valley Vac and Sew in Scottsbluff.

There are special programs each day and today’s is at 11:00 with Martha Woodhouse of Gordon showing some of her favorite quilts from her private collection and the stories behind them.

Woodhouse began quilting before she was 5 years old and it became a life-long passion producing so many quilts that she lost track of the total years ago.

Tomorrow’s program is at 1:00 and also comes from Gordon as members of the Willow Tree Quilt Guild hold a trunk show with their favorite quilts.

With close to 30 members in the group, there should be a diverse selection of quilts, table runners, wall hangings, and other special projects.
