Chadron Reminds Residents Of “Don’t Flush” Protocols

CHADRON – The city of Chadron says too many people who are using disposable wipes to sanitize their homes and other places are disposing of them improperly and causing problems for the sanitary sewer system.

Utility supervisor Tom Menke says even small products labeled “flushable” should not be flushed because they can clog the system.

Menke says crews spent 8 hours Monday working on various lines with the sewer jet to unplug clogs and still have a good portion of the system still to go.

Menke says items at the center of Monday’s clogs included sanitary wipes, a disposable diaper, and a cell phone. He urges everyone to follow the long-standing rule of not flushing anything other toilet paper.
