Chadron School Board Meets Tonight, Begins Supt Interviews Tomorow

CHADRON – The Chadron School Board has a very busy week ahead with its regular monthly meeting tonight and interviews tomorrow and Wednesday with the 4 finalists to succeed retiring Superintendent Dr Caroline Winchester.

The agenda for tonight’s meeting includes action on a recommendation from the board’s personnel committee for a $2 per hour pay raise for Level II Para Educators with the committee also investigating comparable positions and their pay scale.

The board will also consider action on 5 policies, including the second reading of a new one on the handling of money for school-sponsored activities that the board tabled a month ago after concerns were raised by teachers and administrators.

The teachers and principals who raised the concerns over the policy said they supported its goal of better tracking of money for or from school-sponsored activities, but that the wording of some provisions would often be too hard to meet.

The interview schedule for the superintendent finalists begins tomorrow at noon with Dr Maggie Mintken, principal of the Grand Island Academy of Freshman Exploration.

She will be followed at 6:00 PM by Dr Julie Downing, a Staff Developer at the ESU #13 office in Chadron, while Wednesday has Blue Hill Community Schools Supt Joe’l Ruybalid at noon and Scribner-Snyder Supt Ginger Meyer.

All the board interviews will be the district office board room, with each candidate also meeting with various stakeholder groups.

The board plans to meet after interviewing Meyer to review all the candidates and hopeful make their pick to succeed Dr Winchester.
