Volunteers are needed at 3 different times – today at 3:30 to install the stands that will hold the flags, tomorrow morning at 6:30 to put in the flags, and tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 to take down the flags and pull up the stands. The schedule is to put out the stacks for the flags on Sunday at 3:30, then return on Monday morning at 6:30 to put up the flags them, and come back at 4:00 Monday to take the flags down. The American Legion in Nebraska has officially cancelled all Memorial Day events, but the Dawes County Veterans Honor Guard will still visit 3 area cemeteries tomorrow morning to fire a rifle salute and play Taps to honor deceased veterans. The public is invited to attend if they maintain social distancing or remain in their vehicles. The brief ceremonies will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Chadron at 9:00 am, at Chadron’s Greenwood Cemetery at 9:30, and the Whitney Cemetery at 10:15. All flags are currently flying at half-staff until noon tomorrow, when they will go back to full-staff.
