CHADRON – This is Christmas Eve, but it’s also the start of a 2 day holiday for most federal workers as well as most state and county employees in Nebraska.
President Trump announced last week he was giving federal workers paid time off for Christmas Eve, which triggered a Nebraska law requiring the state and counties to follow suit. Cities aren’t directly affected, but many like Chadron are closing offices at noon.
The federal holiday means there will be no general mail delivery, but while such holidays generally means banks and financial institutions are closed – that’s not true this time, although most are planning to close their doors early.
In Chadron, for example, the First National Bank of Chadron, Security First Bank, Farmer’s State Bank, and First National Bank of North Platte are all closing at noon, Chadron Federal Credit Union is ending its day at 1:00, and Bank of the West will follow suit at 2:00.
