Christmas Legal Holiday Friday, But Many Federal, State, And County Workers Off Today

With Christmas falling on Saturday, Friday is the legal holiday but today (Thursday) is also essentially a holiday with most federal employees having the day off.

The major exception is the Post Office, which has normal operations both days before having Saturday off.

Under Nebraska law, state and county employees get the day off when federal workers do, so most state offices – including the courts – are closed both Thursday and Friday, as are county courthouses.

Some cities have regular hours Thursday while others will have shortened days since it’s essentially Christmas Eve for them with the legal holiday Friday.
