Courthouse To Be Closed Fr 1-2 PM To Complete Generator Project

CHADRON – The Dawes County Courthouse in Chadron will be closed tomorrow from 1-to-2:00 to complete the installation of an emergency generator outside the southeast corner of the building.

The courthouse was closed for 2 hours today as part of the installation while tomorrow’s work will connect the emergency generator to the courthouse electrical system

County Commissioner Jake Stewart says the generator will allow the courthouse to serve as an Emergency Operating Center even if power to the building goes out.

Currently, the courthouse shuts down during outages, making it difficult for the Sheriff’s Office and Roads Department to communicate.

Nearly all the costs of buying and installing the generator are being covered by a grant received by the county for the project.
