Unified Command recorded 59 new cases and only 11 recoveries on Thursday for a record 534 active cases, a jump of 132 in just 2 days. Hospitalizations did stay at 24 with the death toll also unchanged at 11. The Panhandle has now had 1,631 total cases with 1,086 recoveries. Dawes County added 9 new cases and 1 new recovery, pushing the number of active cases to 37 with 215 total cases and 178 recoveries. Chadron State College remains with 3 active cases – 1 student and 2 staff – out of 64 total cases, 52 of them students. The Chadron Public Schools still have 2 active cases, both at the high school, and 5 individuals in quarantine. Statewide numbers continue to soar as well. Nebraska Health and Human Services on Thursday reported 977 new cases, 599 recoveries and 11 deaths as the number of active cases topped 20,000 for the first time at 20,202. Total number of confirmed cases is now 61,285 with 587 deaths and 40,494 recoveries. The number of hospitalizations fell slightly to 389 and 31% of the state’s ICU beds remain available along with 29% of all hospital beds and 77% of ventilators.
