CSC Announces Virtual Commencement May 9

CHADRON – Chadron State College is preparing for its first-ever virtual commencement a week from Saturday.

It will premiere on the CSC YouTube site May 9th at 10:00 AM to honor those receiving both graduate and bachelor’s degrees. There have been separate ceremonies for both for many years.

CSC President Dr Randy Rhine says COVID-19 related restrictions forced the cancellation of the traditional graduations, but the virtual commencement will include the names of all the degree recipients as well as well as remarks by college and Nebraska State College System officials.

There will also be moments of reflection by students and a graduation message from Communication and Social Sciences professor Dr Kurt Kinbacher.

Dr Rhine says this year’s spring semester students have “faced an obstacle like none we’ve seen” in the coronavirus, which led to an extended spring break followed by ending all face-to-face classes and offering all courses through remote delivery.

Rhine says the school wants to honor all the graduating students with the virtual ceremony, adding that the faculty and administration know it won’t take the place of the real ceremony but will recognize their hard work and dedication in reaching this major milestone in their lives.

Rhine also says Chadron State is still planning to hold an on-campus commencement ceremony for them at an appropriate time in the future.
