CSC Music Dept Resuming Performances With Latest In Beethoven Sonata SeriesPosted by John AxtellDate: January 29, 2021 7:50 amLeave a comment142 Views With Chadron State College finally reopening its campus to the public this week after 2 months of COVID-19 closure, the college music department is wasting no time in scheduling events. The first is tonight when pianist Dr Alessandra Feris, assistant professor at the University of South Dakota, performs Beethoven’s last three piano sonatas at 7 p.m. in the Sandoz Center Chicoine Atrium. Chadron State is celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday by having local and visiting artists perform all 32 of his piano sonatas in a series of 14 concerts or recitals that began in Sept and run through March. A sonata is defined as any large scale work for solo instruments, usually in three movements. Tonight’s recital is free and open to the public, but attendees must wear masks and socially distance. It will be live streamed at csc.edu/live. It’s the first of 13 music department events during the spring semester. The next is next Tuesday at 5:00, the concluding concert in Memorial Hall for the High Plains Band and Choir Festival.
