CHADRON – Chadron State, Peru State, and Wayne State Colleges will welcome students back to campus one week earlier for this fall’s semester and end it before Thanksgiving while adding a new 3-week Dec Mini-Term.
Nebraska State College System Chancellor Paul Turman says the first day of classes is Aug 17, the short Mid-Term Break is no more, and finals week is the Monday-Wednesday before Thanksgiving, November 23-25. The Mini-Term will be Nov 30 to Dec 18.
The date of Commencement will be determined later this summer or fall, based on input from public health directives
Turman says the changes were guided by the system’s commitment to providing a high-quality, affordable undergraduate education that is accessible to all Nebraskans, being a valuable partner to the rural communities it serves, and the safety of all students, faculty, staff and their families.
Turman says the state colleges were already looking at possible changes to the academic calendar to better meet the needs of students before the pandemic, adding that their unique nature allows them to be flexible and provide a new options for students.
The new calendar allowing students to complete the fall term early gives them the chance to stay on track to complete their degree on time or early at an affordable rate.
Turman says it also gives them the chance to take classes during the Mini-Term, to complete an internship or to work, or to work and make money from Thanksgiving until the start of the spring semester in early January.
