Dates, Places Set For Public Hearings On Nebraska Initiative Measures

Loading

Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen has revealed the times and places for the three required public hearings on the two initiative measures on the November ballot.

One measure is a constitutional amendment requiring voters to show a photo ID to be able to cast a ballot while the other raises the state minimum wage in phases from the current $9.75 per hour to $15 per hour.

State law requires one public hearing be held in each of Nebraska’s 3 Congressional districts. Evnen says the hearings are intended to “educate citizens and the media on the initiatives prior to the elections.”

Each of the public hearings will be open at least 3 hours with the public able to make remarks and ask questions.

The first hearings, one on each measure, are in the 3rd District a week from Thursday on Oct 6th at Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte. The minimum wage hearing is fro 1-4:00 CT with the voter ID hearing from 4-7:00.

The Thompson Alumni Center at the University of Nebraska-Omaha hosts the second set of hearings on Tuesday, Oct 11, with the minimum wage from 1:30-4:30 and Voter ID from 6-9:00.

The hearings in the 1st Congressional District have the same time schedule as the ones in the 2nd District and will be Tuesday, Oct 18, at the Capitol in Lincoln.
