Defense Bill Includes $3-B For Ellsworth AFB

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – The U-S House has approved a $738 billion dollar defense bill that designates $3 billion dollars to renovate and upgrade Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City to become one of the homes to the nation’s new long-range bomber now under development.

Ellsworth is currently home to the B-1 bomber, and the House-Senate conference committee that hammered out the defense bill directed the Air Force to provide information on increasing the readiness of B-1

The bill, which the Senate is expected to pass and send to the President by next week, also calls for another $24.8 million dollars to install a new hydrant fuel system Ellsworth, an upgrade that would serve all planes using the base.
