Oglala Lakota College faculty member Darrell Red Cloud is speaking this week at Wind Cave National Park National Park on the significance of the cave to the Lakota people.
He is a fluent speaker of the Lakota language with a bachelor’s degree in Lakota Culture and an experienced story teller who has been educating and entertaining audiences for years.
Park Chief of Interpretation Tom Farrell says Red Cloud has talks scheduled today and Wednesday at 10:00, 1:00, and 3:00 at the Visitor Center with an evening program Saturday at 8:00 at the Elk Mountain Campground Amphitheater.
Wind Cave Supt Leigh Welling says ““Wind Cave is integral to the origin of the Lakota people (and) this program will help our visitors understand the deep history and connection that Native Americans have to Wind Cave and the Black Hills.”
Tom Farrell says Wind Dave hopes to have more speakers and more programs in the future on Wind Cave’s cultural history.
Darrell Red Cloud is already scheduled to present additional talks at Wind Cave later this month and next month.
Funding for his programs is provided by the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association, a nonprofit partner of Wind Cave National Park that provides funding to support the park’s educational programs.
