The Nebraska State Patrol says a man who was fired from a grain elevator in the south-central part of the state yesterday morning returned in the afternoon and shot three people, killing 2 of them, before he was shot to death by another employee.

The Patrol says 61-year-old Max Hoskinson of Superior came back to the Agrex Elevator in Superior around 2 p.m. with a pistol and began firing, hitting 3 people.

An Agrex employee was able to retrieve a shotgun from the office and shot Hoskinson, who was taken to the hospital in Superior, where he died.

Authorities say one of those shot by Hockinson died at the scene, while a second was treated in Superior and airlifted with life-threatening injuries to a Lincoln hospital, where they died. The third victim was treated and released at the Superior hospital.

Governor Pete Ricketts issued a statement calling the news of the shootings “shocking and devastating,’ adding that he and his wife are praying for the victims and their families.
