“Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over” Is Back For The Holidays

The latest edition of the nationwide anti-drunk driving campaign Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over began Friday and runs through New Year’s Day.

Thousands of law enforcement agencies throughout the United States participate in the annual effort to safely close the holiday season through increased patrols and visibility.

The Nebraska Dept of Transportation Highway Safety Office has again awarded grants to law enforcement agencies across the state to cover the overtime costs to put more officers on the road during Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Grants went this time to 24 sheriff’s offices, 20 local police departments, and the Nebraska State Patrol but the only Panhandle agency with a grant other than the State Patrol is the Scottsbluff Police Department.

State Patrol Supt Colonel John Bolduc says troopers have arrested more than 230 motorists for driving under the influence since 100 Days of Summer began Memorial Day weekend.

The Highway Safety Office says over a third of Nebraska’s fatal traffic accidents last year involved alcohol with 76 people losing their lives in those crashes.
