A Kansas man has been cited for motor vehicle homicide in a 2-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon near Alliance that claimed the life of a young Alliance woman.

36-year old Ryan McElroy of Salina is also charged with 3rd offense DUI, reckless driving, open container and driving under suspension in the accident that killed 22-year old Blythe Boness.

McElroy remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries suffered in the crash and will be transferred to the Box Butte County jail when medically cleared.

The State Patrol says McElroy was westbound on Hwy 2 about 2:10 when his car hit the small eastbound SUV driven by Boness. The SUV rolled into the ditch and she was ejected. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene.

The Alliance Fire Department had to use specialized equipment to extricate McElroy from his car before he was flown to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
