ds By State Treasurer Draw Scrutiny

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – A state senator says he may push to strengthen a Nebraska law regulating advertising by state officials after the Omaha World-Herald raised questions about ads by State Treasurer John Murante.

Murante, a Republican spent more than $593,000 on ads prominently featuring himself and approved on a no-bid contract with his former employer.

State law prohibits state officers like the treasurer from running ads with their names during an election year, and State Senator Matt Hansen of Lincoln, a Democrat in the officially non-partisan Legislature, says he is looking at expanding that law to apply in all years.
