Fall River County Commissioners To Hold First Reading Of Medical Pot Ordinance

The Fall River County Commissioners are meeting in special session Tuesday morning at 9:00 for the first reading of the local ordinance setting the licensing rules for medicinal marijuana establishments.

States Attorney Lance Russell says while municipalities can license between 1 and 4 medicinal cannabis sellers, the county can license as many establishments as it wants outside city limits.

As for fees, there is a $5,000 state licensing fee, but the commissioners set the cost of the local fee along with hours of operations and where pot dispensaries can be located such as minimum distances from schools, churches, and homes.

The first reading of the medical marijuana ordinance is part of a very light agenda that does include executive sessions on personnel, legal issues, and negotiations.
