FCC Chair Tours Wind River Res, Gets Update On Internet Access

Fort Washakie, Wyo. (AP) – Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai toured central Wyoming’s Wind River Reservation this week to look at efforts to improve internet access for members of the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes, which share the reservation.

The FCC approved a $4.1-million grant last year to boost broadband service to the reservation and Pai says his visit showed him how much impact the grant has already had, even though very little of it has been used yet.

Pai says more children are now able to do homework at home and more people can now work from home because of the new internet service.

The Northern Arapaho plan to connect about 850 homes to high-speed internet over the next few years, thanks to the grant.
