      Incumbent elected officials in Nebraska have one more week to file if they plan to run this year for any office, either their current one or some other.
Non-incumbents have two weeks beyond that to March 1st to file.Â
There haven’t been a lot of filings yet in Dawes County except for elected county officials. All but one of the 8 current officeholders have filed to run again with Treasurer Sam Wellnitz still making his decision.\
Those who have filed are led by Sheriff Karl Dailey, first elected in 1986, County Attorney Vance Haug, elected 6 times since being appointed in April 1997, and Clerk Cheryl Feist, who was first elected in 2002.
     The other incumbents having filed for reelection are Clerk of the District Court Celeste Cattin, Assessor Lindi Coleman, and County Commissioners Jake Stewart and Vic Rivera.
Rivera is the only one with an opponent in either the primary or general election at this point. Rancher and businessman Travis Nitsch of rural Chadron has filed against Rivera in the Republican primary.
     All 3 Chadron school board members with expiring terms – Tom Menke, Tye Pourier, and Sandy Montague-Roes – have filed, but Cheryl Welch is is the only one of the 3 incumbent Chadron City Council members to do so.
One Crawford school board member, Joe Vogel, has filed to run again as have city councilman Ed Kuhnel and Mayor Connie Shell, who easily survived a recall election last year.
This is the first election for Crawford city council since the voters did away with wards and made all the seats at-large.
