Fischer Votes For Infrastructure Bill, Sasse Against It

When the U-S Senate passed the bipartisan trillion-dollar infrastructure bill on Tuesday, Nebraska’s Deb Fischer was surprisingly one of the 19 Republican senators to vote for it.

Fischer is a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, who loudly urged all the Republican senators to vote no, but Fischer says the bill – while not perfect – brings needed help to many parts of Nebraska.

Fischer, a senior member of the Commerce Committee and the top Republican on the Surface Transportation Subcommittee,  says “This bipartisan bill makes long-awaited investments to rebuild and develop our nation’s core infrastructure.”

Fischer says the package includes money in key areas she’s been pushing for years such as roads, bridges, water infrastructure, airports, and broadband. She’s also pleased with provisions that increase flexibility for livestock haulers and provide help for transportation needs to communities in rural America.

Nebraska’s other senator, fellow Republican Ben Sasse, blasted the measure as spending too much money in the wrong way. A member of the Finance and Budget Committees, Sasse says it spends money the country doesn’t have – more than Washington has ever spent before – and will make out-of-control inflation even worse.

South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds helped negotiate and champion the bill, but dropped his support at the last minute saying the final version included several progressive mandates and federal funding clawbacks” that he felt go too far.

Rounds didn’t vote against it though, he was in South Dakota to be with his wife Jean as she continues treatments for cancer.

  1. Since when was Fischer a “strong supporter of former President Donald Trump?” Was that when she asked Trump to step down from the ticket in the 2016 election?
