Former Box Butte Co Public Defender Disabarred Over Drug Charges

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – The Nebraska Supreme Court has disbarred former Box Butte County Public Defender Jon Worthman of Alliance, who is awaiting trial on drug charges.

The 52-year old Worthman, who also served as deputy public defender in Dawes County, voluntarily surrendered his law license ahead of the high court’s disbarment order.

Worthman was arrested in January after the Nebraska State Patrol said an informant had sold him about an ounce of cocaine. Investigators say he also admitted to sometimes accepting cocaine as payment for legal fees.

Worthman is awaiting trial in Scotts Bluff County on a charge of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.
