Former Gering Jr High Teacher Arrested In Sexting Case Posted by John Axtell Date: January 24, 2020 11:33 am Leave a comment 16 Views GERING – A former Gering Junior High School science teacher with 2 degrees from Chadron State College was arrested Wednesday for trying to convince a 16-year old girl to have a sexting relationship with him. 31-year old Zach Boness is charged with 2 felonies – Child Enticement via an Electronic Communication Device and Possession of Child Pornography – and misdemeanor Debauching a Minor. He is free on $200,000 bond, but no appearance date has been set. Rural Radio News reports that court documents show a Nebraska State Patrol Investigation began in late October when the girl told interviewers at CAPstone that she’d received a Snapchat friend request from with only the initials SP for a sexting relationship and to “do things” with her. SP sent the girl a picture via Snapchat the next day and she was able to identify the photograph as Boness, telling investigators she knew him as a teacher, coach, and family friend. She said she told him she was unconfortable with his communications and that he’d asked her to promise not to tell anyone – calling it a “momentary lapse” in judgement and that he knew it was wrong, looked bad, and could end his career and marriage. Boness went to the State Patrol Troop E Headquarters in Scottsbluff on Oct 30th and admitted he created the Snapchat account to contact the girl for a sexting relationship. After a lengthy investigation, a warrant was issued for his arrest and served on Wednesday. Both local county judges, James Worden and Kris Mickey, immediately recused themselves from the case. Boness was a standout athlete at Alliance High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Chadron State.
