Foul Play Not Indicated In Death Of Chadron Man Found In City Reservoir

Loading

Dawes County Attorney and Coroner Vance Haug says a Chadron man apparently drowned at the Chadron City Dams sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

The body of 58-year old Carl Kutschara was recovered by divers about 2:00 Monday afternoon.

Haug says authorities were notified about 7:30 AM that Mr Kutschara was missing and that his pickup had been found at the dams.

Multiple agencies responded and organized a search of the two small reservoirs. Officers in a Nebraska Game and Parks vehicle soon spotted and located the body.

Search and Rescue divers from the Scottsbluff Police Department were called and recovered the body.

Haug says the preliminary investigation of the scene, physical evidence, and witness interviews indicate foul play was NOT a factor in Mr Kutschara’s death. Haug has ordered an autopsy and toxicological screening as the investigation continues.

Anyone who may have seen Carl Kutschara or his red GMC pickup at the Chadron dams in the hours before his death is asked to contact the Chadron Police Department.

The Chadron and Scottsbluff Police Departments, Dawes County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, and Nebraska Game and Parks worked with Haug at the scene and took part in the initial stages of the investigation.
