Found Body Believed To Be That Of Missing Elk Hunter

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – The Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom says the body of an elk hunter missing since last October has apparently been found.

An autopsy today is expected to confirm that the remains are those of 66-year old Larry Genzlinger of Howard, SD.

Sheriff Thom says a resident of the Deerfield Lake area was repairing a fence yesterday and discovered the body about 2-1/2 miles from where Genzlinger’s last known location on Oct 1st. The location, physical description of the body, and the man’s clothing match with Genzlinger.

Genzlinger was hunting with a nephew when they separated and he failed to return. Extensive searches followed, but the high elevation and early season snow to the effort on hold until spring. Multiple agencies were involved in the months-long search from the air and on the ground.

Almost 2,500 miles were logged by search teams including 200 last week during a 4-day effort with 7 search dog teams from multiple states looked for Genzlinger and Serenity Dennard, last seen when she ran away from a group home near Rockerville in Feb 2019 when she was 9 years old.
