Loading

After having only the Buckskinners Camp and Mac’s Carnival yesterday, the pace of action at Chadron’s Fur Trade Days picks up today with activities from 10:00 AM to midnight.

The full celebration schedule can be found online at the Fur Trade Days website furtradedays.com.

Fur Trade board member and Chadron city councilman Miles Bannan says everyone is excited to return after the COVID-19 pandemic eliminated all of the celebration’s activities.

Board President Dave Hockenbary says there are a lot more things this morning and afternoon than in past years and most are aimed at families.

The morning schedule has a Chess Tournament starting at 10:00 at the Library, which has kid’s Story Time and Crafts at 10:30.

New this year and starting downtown at 12:30  is Puzzle Pieces: Chadron’s Historical Scavenger Hunt. Northwest Nebraska Tourism Director Kerri Rempp says it’s fun and informative.

Dave Hockenbary says the afternoon schedule offers several events that combine information and fun.

Miles Bannan, a father of young children, is excited by having the String Beans in particular.

The Traders Market along the Courthouse lawn opens at 4:00 and reopens in the morning at 8:00.

KCSR and KBPY join the Fur Trade Days fun with the Classics in the Park Car Show Cruise Night. We’ll be playing cruisin’ music from multiple generations with a live broadcast from 5:-7:00,.

The car show starts tomorrow at 11:00 public can get a sneak peek at tomorrow’s actual car show at a Park and Show at the south end of Wilson Park after the cruise.

Tonight is the first of 2 nights of live music and street dances downtown. The local group Second Avenue plays from 7-8:00, followed by the headliners – Tripwire – who plays until 1:00.

A 4-block area downtown has been designated as a giant beer garden where a special $10 Fur Trade Days cup allows wandering around. Several “watering establishments” are taking part, and Miles Bannan says everyone wins.

Those too young to drink can take advantage of free youth bowling from 9-midnight at Hilltop Lanes and can go to the Carnival from 5:00-to-midnight. Fur Trade Days is still offering $20 vouchers for a wristband good for 5 hours of unlimited rides.

Vouchers can be purchased until 4:30 at any Chadron financial institution, at a booth in front of Homestead Bank – formerly First National Bank of Chadron – tonight and tomorrow until 4:30, or online at Furtradedays.com until 4:30 tomorrow.
