Gillette Library Officials Could Face Child-Sex Charges Over Books Involving Sex Education And LGBTQ Issues

Prosecutors in Gillette are considering criminal charges against local library officials for stocking 5 nonfiction books in the children’s and young adult sections some say are obscene.

The books involve sex education and LGBTQ issues.

Gillette residents Hugh and Susan Bennett brought the books to the attention of the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, saying they may violate child-sex laws.

l County Attorney Mitchell Damsky says prosecutors have reviewed the case and will ask for a special prosecutor to do the same.

Library Executive Director Terri Lesley says while investigators haven’t contacted her, library staff have been reviewing complaints about the books.
