Gordon Urges Patience In Deciding On Spending Cuts

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – The Wyoming Legislature opened its 4-week 2020 budget session yesterday with the day highlighted by Governor Mark Gordon’s State of the State Address.

Gordon said Wyoming has enough savings to take time and be thoughtful about future spending cuts amid declining revenue from fossil fuels, but the Republican starting his second year in office also promised not “dither” and put the state’s coal, oil, and natural gas industries at risk.

Gordon described efforts by other states to boost renewable energy sources as coming at the expense of coal, oil and natural gas – which he promised to protect and promote.

Budgeting for Wyoming has been tight amid a decade-long decline in revenue from natural gas extraction and coal mining.
