Grand Teton NP Visitor To Pay $5,800 For Not Protecting Food From Bears

A federal judge in Wyoming has ordered a 50-year old Idaho woman to pay over $5,800 in fines and restitution for leaving trash out that attracted a grizzly bear to her campsite in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park.

Federal prosecutors say that as a result of the woman’s negligence, wildlife officials had to tranquilize the bear and move it elsewhere in the park in the hope that tasting human food won’t make it a recurring danger to people.

The judge convicted the Parma woman of improper food storage, a misdemeanor, and ordered the restitution to cover the cost of relocating the bear and having to use a GPS collar to track it.
