Hail Pounds Crawford, Lightning Sparks Fires SW Of Chadron

CHADRON – We should have more information later today on the hail storm that hit Crawford yesterday afternoon. Hailstones described as the size of baseballs and tennis balls accompanied by high winds battered the city before traveling on south and dissipating.

The same weather pattern that spawned the Crawford storm triggered lightning-caused fires between Crawford and Chadron.

More information is expected later in the day, but at least 2 fires were reported south of Hwy 20 off Deadhorse Road southwest of Chadron and 1 north of the highway just west of the airport. Both the Chadron and Crawford rural fire departments responded to the fires.
