Hemingford Holiday Play Returns With Performances Sun And Tues

The annual Hemingford Holiday Play returns tomorrow night in Hemingford with a special performance Tuesday night in Alliance.

There are actually 2 short plays this year: A Christmas Peter Pan as well as The Polar Bear Prince

Director Tabi Bryner says there are more than 60 young people and adults involved in the plays, adding that they’ve “had a blast” working on them and are thrilled to share their hard work with audiences.

A Christmas Peter Pan brings back some of the favorite characters from JM Barrie’s beloved classic story. In it, Tinker Bell summons Wendy to help her save Peter and Santa Claus from the terrible pirates of Captain Hook.

Bryner says the Polar Bear Prince is a play within a play, telling the story of a group of Arctic tourists whose sleigh bus crashes into a snow drift.

To keep their spirits high and lower extremities warm while waiting for a rescue party, they act out a no-holds-barred fractured fairy tale about a polar bear, whose really an enchanted prince, and the beauty to goes to extreme lengths to win her beast.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth and kids. They’re available at the Hemingford Community Credit Union, online at otcf.org, or at the door.

Curtain time is 6:30 both nights, Sunday at the Box Butte County Fairgrounds Multipurpose Hall and Tuesday in the Alliance Performing Arts Center at Alliance High School.

Bryner says the Hemingford Holiday Play is a proud not-for-profit member of the Hemingford Community Foundation and that all proceeds from both performances will go toward the costs of upcoming productions.
