Hotel Roof Collapse In York Kills 10-Year Old Wisconsin Boy

Police in the southeastern Nebraska town of York say the roof over a hotel pool collapsed about 9:00 Sunday night, killing a boy from Wisconsin.

The hotel was evacuated and no one else was reported injured.

Officers and firefighters responding to multiple 911 calls about the roof collapse at the I-80 Hampton Inn found 10-year old Ben Prince of Hudson trapped beneath the debris. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation by multiple state and local agencies, including the Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s office.

KSTP Radio in St Paul, MN, reported that Prince’s parents and brothers were also in the pool area when the roof came down. They tried to lift a section of it off him, but it was too heavy.
