Infectious Disease Expert Thinks COVID-19 Has Peaked In Neb Posted by John Axtell Date: May 20, 2020 10:52 am Leave a comment 5 Views OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – One of the nation’s top infectious disease experts, says the COVID-19 outbreak likely hit its peak in Nebraska the week ending May 9, when there were more than 3,200 positive cases across the state. University of Nebraska Medical Center Dean of Public Health Dr Ali Khan says the single-highest day was May 7 with 677 cases with the largest number since then coming last Saturday at 448. Last week, there were just under 2,000 total cases reported with a positivity rate of almost 10%, down sharply from almost 25% for the week ending May 2. Khan is quick to emphasize that passing the peak doesn’t mean people should let down their guard because there will likely be COVID-19 flare-ups over the next few months, especially in facilities such as packing plants and nursing homes.
