This is Homecoming Day at Chadron State College, highlighted by the 1:00 football game against #22 Colorado Mines.

The day starts with the annual Homecoming Parade at 9:30 – which will be broadcast on KCSR with Jeremy Anderson and Bailey Lake bringing you all the descriptions.

Karen Pope, who is retiring after 3 decades from the Chadron State Alumni and Foundation Office, will be the Grand Marshal and the parade will feature about a dozen high school bands from 4 states.

Five are from Nebraska – Banner County, Bayard, Bridgeport, Kimball, Mitchell, and Valentine – with 3 from South Dakota – Hot Springs, Edgemont, and Bennett County – along with Wright, Wyoming, and Fleming, Colorado. Some of the bands will also play in the stands at the football game.

Being recognized at halftime will be this year’s recipients of the CSC Distinguished Alumni, Distinguished Young Alumni, and Family Tree Awards.

This year’s Distinguished Alumni recipients are Mark Brohman, whose long career in conservation included 15 years as executive director of the Nebraska Environmental Trust, and retired principal Dora Olivares of Scottsbluff.

Receiving the Young Alumni Award are Dr Nisha Durand, a key research technologist for the Mayo Clinic in Florida; Ryan Hieb, special agent of the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, and Dr T-J Thomson of Queensland University in Australia

Brohman, Olivares, Durand, and Hieb will be presented with their awards in a luncheon preceding the football game. Thomas received his this summer while here on a family visit, while the Brown and Guzman families will be honored at the game.

Homecoming at Chadron State wraps up tonight with a formal dance in the Student Center Ballroom.
