Judge To Rule Soon On Location Of Fortenberry Trial

A federal judge is expected to rule soon on where Nebraska 1st-District Congressman Jeff Fortenberry will stand trial next month on charges of lying to federal agents – California or Nebraska.

His attorneys have filed motions asking the judge to exclude evidence from the trial and transfer the case from California to Nebraska.

Fortenberry, a nine-term Republican, has pleaded not guilty to charges alleging he lied to federal authorities who were investigating an illegal 2016 campaign contribution from a foreign national at a Los Angeles fundraiser

He is being challenged in the GOP primary by State Senator and broadcast communications owner Mike Flood, who entered the race over concerns that Fortenberry’s legal woes could cost the party his season.
