The Lincoln teenager who shot and killed a Lincoln police officer trying to serve him with a warrant in August 2020 is going to be spending a long time behind bars.
19-year old Felipe Vazquez was given 70 years to life for the death of Inspector Mario Herrera, 59-to-86 years for attempted assault on a second officer and 4 gun counts.
Inspector Herrera was part of a multi-agency task force serving a warrant on Vazquez in connection with an earlier stabbing death.
The 23-year law enforcement veteran died 12 days after being shot, becoming the first Lincoln police officer killed in the line of duty in more than 50 years.
