A lengthy armed standoff on the Pine Ridge Reservation Thursday ended with the suspect wounded and in custody after exchanging gunfire with Oglala Sioux Dept of Public Safety officers.
. Oglala Sioux Police Chief Algin Young says a call about gunshots in Pine Ridge came in about 3:15 PM. Officers arrived and found an armed man who refused to cooperate.
Chief Young says the man went into his home and refused to cooperate with law enforcement trying to negotiate his surrender. Finally, he came out and shot at officers, who returned fire.
Young says the man was hit and arrested, but no officers were injured. Under OST policy and procedures, the FBI is investigating the incident the firing of their guns by the officers.
