The Nebraska Dept of Correctional Services says an inmate serving life in prison for murder has died at age 64 in the Reception and Treatment Center in Lincoln.
No cause of death was given for Russell Harms, but under standard policy an autopsy will be conducted. There will also be a grand jury investigation, required by state law anytime someone dies in custody or while being arrested.
Harms was convicted of the 1999 shooting in an Auburn shopping center parking lot of 84-year old Tennyson Kelsay, the grandfather of then-Husker rush end Chris Kelsay and NFL LB Chad Kelsay, also a former Husker.
Harms had a long history of mental illness, but was convicted of 1st-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison despite being diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic.
