Motion To Suppress Denied For Little Moon

Dawes Co.

An attempt to suppress the confessions of a Chadron man charged with first degree murder and felony use of a firearm has been denied in district court.

The lawyer representing Ian “Sage” Little Moon made the motion to suppress comments made at the time of his apprehension, which was denied by District Judge Travis O’Gorman this week.

Little Moon is accused of killing John Martinez, who was in a relationship with Little Moon’s sister during the time of the shooting last July.

Little Moon was accused of fleeing the scene prior to police arriving, fleeing in a stolen minivan that was eventually recovered near Whiteclay, and was later placed into custody by OST authorities on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

Court records reveal that Little Moon was presented his Miranda rights and did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time he was apprehended.

A status hearing for this case has been scheduled for July 12th in Dawes County District Court.
