Motorcycle Crash Near Lead Claims 1 Life


LEAD, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol says one person was killed and another injured in a motorcycle crash Friday afternoon near Lead. Names are pending notification of family members.

The Highway Patrol says the Harley Davidson was eastbound on U.S. Highway 14 about 4-miles west of Lead about 4:30 when the driver failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The motorcycle went into the right ditch and eventually tipped over with both occupants thrown from the motorcycle.

The 42-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the 42-year-old female passenger sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Deadwood hospital. Helmet use for both is under investigation.
