Names Released In Double-Fatal Collision In Hwy 385 Construction Zone

     The Nebraska State Patrol has released the names from the collision early Tuesday afternoon between a pickup and a dump truck in a construction zone on Hwy 385 south of Alliance near Angora.

     Killed were the pickup driver, 79-year old Charles Dueker, and his 78-year old wife Linda. Their son, 56-year old Bruce Dueker, was treated at a hospital and released. All are from Albuquerque, NM. 

    The truck driver, 31-year old Aldo Hernandez-Meza of Mexico, was arrested on charges of motor vehicle homicide and failure to yield the right of way. 

     The Nebraska State Patrol says its preliminary investigation shows Hernandez-Meza was southbound with a load of wet cement when he tried to enter the construction zone from the northbound lane about 12:45.

     He failed to yield the right of way to the Dueker’s northbound pickup and the vehicles collided. Dueker and his wife, who was in the rear seat, died at the scene .

    Bruce Kueker, the front seat passenger, was taken by ambulance to Morrill County Hospital in Bridgeport with non-life-threatening injuries.

     Hernandez-Meza suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the Bridgeport hospital. When he was released, he was arrested for motor vehicle homicide and failure to yield the right of way, and lodged in the Morrill County Jail
