Names Released In Fatal WNCC Accident, But Not Details Of Accident

The Cheyenne County Coroner’s Office has released the names of the two Western Nebraska Community College students who died last Thursday in an accident at the school’s Aviation Maintenance Facility at the Sidney Airport.

21-year old Yemin An of Seoul, South Korea, and 24-year old Zhaoxin Chen of Xi’an (SHE-aan), China, were both sophomores enrolled in WNCC’s Aviation Maintenance Technician program.

There’s still no information about the accident itself or the cause of death, only that An and Chen were working on an airplane engine inside the building.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office, Sidney Police Department, and FAA are continuing their investigations and WNCC President Dr Carmen Simone says the school will continue to cooperate in all the ways it can.

Simone also says WNCC students, faculty, and staff are all still mourning the loss of An and Chen, calling them “outstanding students” lost in a “devastating accident.”

WNCC has organized a Crisis Response Team to continue work with students, instructors, and all others that have been affected by deaths with. counseling services available for students and employees.
