Neb COVID Cases Jump 336 Over The Weekend To 1,474; Panhandle At 38 CasesPosted by John AxtellDate: April 20, 20206 ViewsHEMINGFORD – Panhandle COVID-19 Unified Command confirmed 4 new cases of COVID-19 in the Panhandle on Sunday, all in Scotts Bluff County. The 4 patients – a male in his 50s, 2 females in their teens and 1 female in her 40s – are all close contacts of a previously positive case.There have now been 38 positive cases in the Panhandle, 18 of whom have already recovered. Scotts Bluff County has 22 with 8 recoveries, followed by Kimball with 10 and 9. One of the 4 Cheyenne County cases have recovered, and both Box Butte and Morrill Counties each have 1 case.Nebraska Dept of Health and Human Services figures show the state had its single biggest weekend jump in confirmed positive COVID-19 tests, shooting up from 1,138 on Friday to 1,474 after daily increases of 149 and 187.A little over 9% of tests reported through Sunday have come back as positive with 14,206 negatives. Nebraska has also had 28 COVID-19 deaths.South Dakota recorded 131 new cases Sunday, pushing its total to 1,635. Minnehaha County once again accounted for most of the new cases, 119 – including 18 more from the Smithfield Foods pork processing plant in Sioux FallsIt’s one of the largest known clusters of COVID-19 cases in the U-S with 725 workers testing positive along with 143 of their close contacts.The Minnehaha Juvenile Detention Center in Sioux Falls reported over the weekend that one of its staffers had also tested positive. Center director Jamie Gravett says staff and juveniles are being monitored for symptoms and have their temperature taken twice each day.
