Neb National Guard Observes 165th Birthday

LINCOLN – Friday was the 165th anniversary of the creation of the Nebraska National Guard, and the occasion was marked with a celebration in the Capitol Rotunda.

Governor Pete Ricketts and Senator Deb Fischer joined Major General Daryl Bohac, Adjutant General of the Guard, in offering remarks.

December has been a busy month for the Nebraska National Guard, which includes Army and Air Force contingents.

General Bohac and other guard leaders visited Rwanda to formalize a partnership to mentor the African nation’s Defense Force, while the newly created 179th Cyber Protection Team mobilized for its first deployment and will will spend the next year in Maryland at Fort Meade with the U.S. Cyber Command to identify and prevent cybersecurity threats.

Earlier in the week, Nebraska National Guard air crewmen and coordinators were among those honored at the Capitol for heroism shown during the 2019 flooding in Nebraska, and General Bohac visited the guard units in western Nebraska.
