The training officers for the weekend exercises are from the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office and the Gering Police Dept Lt Peatrowski says the simulated active shooter scenario will be conducted entirely within the confines of the Chadron High School building, but cautions that members of the public may first notice police and military vehicles present in the area. The 1057th, headquartered in Chadron with detachments in Scottsbluff and Grand Island, became an MP unit about 5 years ago after 2 decades as a transportation company and an even longer period as a field artillery battery. While a transportation company, it was fully deployed to Kuwait as part of the war on terrorism with some members returning for multiple tours. Members also deployed to the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City to help provide security.
