BNSF Coal Train Derails At Edge Of Scottsbluff

A Burlington Northern Santa Fe coal train derailed about 5:15 last night on the eastern edge of Scottsbluff where train speeds are slow due to quiet zones inside the city limits.

BNSF spokesperson Courtney Wallace told KNEB News at least 4 coal cars were involved in the derailment between 9th Avenue and Sugar Factory Road, but that there were no injuries.

Wallace also said all of the cars that came off the tracks appeared to have remained upright and kept the vast majority of their loads.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway and Wallace wasn’t sure when the track would be restored to service.
