Chadron City Council Approves New Budget Posted by John Axtell Date: September 09, 2020 314 Views The Chadron City Council has passed a nearly $16.3-million dollar budget for the fiscal year that starts at the end of the month. The total operating budget is up about 4% from the current year. The budget includes multiple reserve funds and the water and wastewater funds. The general fund covers normal city operations and is $4-million, 675-thousand dollars. The council members praised city staff – including City Manager Greg Yanker, Finance Officer Jeanette Puzzo, and City Clerk Donna Rust – for their hard work. The budget process was helped by the fact that the impact of the economic slowdown from the coronavirus was relatively light and short-lived for Chadron, with sales tax revenue for the city ending up about 3% above the budgeted amount. The property tax request is a little under $1-million, 151-thousand dollars including $38,000 for the public safety bond used to buy new air packs for the fire department. The tax rate remains the same as last year at 43.71-cents per hundred dollars of assessed value, but because the total assessed value inside the city limits rose 4.5%, the city will get about $47,000 more than this year.
