Nebraska Redistricting Maps Get 2nd Round Approval

Nebraska lawmakers have given second round approval to maps setting new congressional and legislative boundaries based on last year’s census.

Although the Unicameral is officially non-partisan, the congressional map continued to draw criticism from Democratic lawmakers who argued it was designed to help give Republicans a greater advantage in the Omaha-based 2nd District.

The 2nd District is the only to have elected a Democrat in more than half a century and Democrats Barack Obama and Joe Biden each claimed the district’s Electoral College vote.

Nebraska and Maine are the only states to split their Electoral votes, giving the statewide winner 2 votes with the winner of each congressional district getting one.

Final action on both the congressional and legislative district maps is scheduled for Thursday..
