Nebraska Registered 30 Traffic Deaths in June Posted by John Axtell Date: July 24, 2021 10:15 pm Leave a comment 419 Views The Nebraska Dept of Transportation says the state suffered 30 traffic deaths in 22 crashes in June, one more fatality than last year. That brings the year-to-date death toll to 104 in just 83 crashes compared to 102 fatalities in 96 fatal accidents a year ago. The NDOT says 10 of the 26 people killed last month were not using seat belts with investigators unable to determine if 9 others were wearing belts. Two victims were pedestrians and 2 were motorcyclists. There were 29 deaths in rural areas with fewer than 5,000 residents, 4 on interstates, 19 on other highways, and 7 on local roads. Traffic deaths for the first 6 months of the year have been relatively steady in Nebraska in recent years. There were 101 in 2017 with 102 in both 2018 and 2020 with 111 in 2019. This year’s total is driven by an increase in multiple-fatality accidents. The 4-year average from 2017-2020 was 104 deaths from 93 crashes while it’s taken only 83 accidents to reach that same 104 total this year.
